High Trails was founded in 2005 by Mark and Carey Faulkner with the aim of providing high quality and reliable services to tour operators wishing to run trips in the Alps. Year on year High Trails has grown as a business both in terms of passenger numbers and turnover and we help a number of leading tour operators, charities and corporate companies organise their trips in the Alps.
Prior to setting up High Trails both Mark and Carey spent many years employed in tourism. Mark worked as a Trip Manager for one of the UK’s foremost adventure travel companies creating new product and growing and improving existing ones. Carey qualified as an International Mountain Leader in 2003 and now uses her skills and experience to help new leaders develop, as well as taking a leading role in the design of new and exciting trekking holidays. They both worked for many years as tour leaders and travelled the world running adventure, biking, trekking, snowshoeing and ski touring group holidays.
High Trails success has been aided by building and maintaining strong relationships with local businesses and suppliers. The same policy holds true for our team of excellent tour leaders, many of whom return year after year, and we are firm believers in training and the benefits it brings.
Our efforts ensure we provide the service our clients expect with a leader who has the knowledge and skills to do a superb job.
Finally, throughout our working lives we have organised and run trips within Responsible Tourism guidelines and, as second nature, all of our trips are designed and run in a manner that has a minimum impact on the environment.
We have a deep affection for the mountains both summer and winter and we live with our two children and two cats near Sion, Switzerland, in the heart of the Alps.
If you enjoy working with people in the outdoors a position as a tour leader could be the perfect job for you.
We are looking for leaders who are;
friendly, sociable and approachable
knowledgeable and informed about the environment they work in
punctual and organised
skilled at anticipating and solving problems before they occur
responsible and caring
have all the necessary life skills to confidently lead a group.
At the beginning of each season we provide training where we or other experienced leaders will instruct you in the day to day routine of each trip and pass on tried and tested methods of leading successful group holidays. This initial training is then supplemented with on trip training and regular visits from us throughout the season. We look for a variety of different leaders;
Walking leaders with IML qualifications for our trekking trips.
Leaders with extensive travel experience but no formal qualifications for our discovery trips.
Support leaders to look after camp logistics and catering.
